CASA Gambia and BATTEN Construction Company Ltd have signed a contract worth over 12 million Dalasi for the Renovation and Expansion of Maternity and Labour Ward at Brufut Health Center, at a recent ceremony attended by various stakeholders.
During the ceremony, Ebrima Jatta, the chairperson CASA Gambia, provided a detailed explanation of the project and emphasized its significance for the local community of Brufut and the surrounding areas.
The Director of Health Services, Western Region 1 – Mr. Musa Camara acknowledged the challenges faced by the healthcare industry, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, which contributed to the project being delayed. However, he expressed the Ministry of Health’s commitment to supporting the project and urged CASA Gambia and its partners to expand similar projects throughout the region.
Mr. Omar Dampha, the Officer in Charge at Brufut Health Center, highlighted the need for the Maternity Ward expansion, noting that the health center currently receives over 70 to 80 deliveries per month with just two delivery beds. The expansion will reduce the number of referrals to other health centers and ensure better healthcare services for the population of over 68 thousand people in the catchment area.
Mr. Sheikh Tijan Sallah, the representative of BATEN Construction Company LTD, expressed his delight with the transparency of the bidding process and CASA Gambia’s leadership in awarding the contract. He promised to fulfill their responsibility as per the agreement of the contract, drawing from their extensive experience in constructing health facilities across the country.
Ursula Krol, the Chairwoman of Foundation Brufut Forward, expressed her excitement that the project could finally proceed, after working tirelessly with partners to raise funds for the project. She extended her appreciation to everyone who contributed in one way or the other towards realizing the project.
